Urban Verified
Trust is the product. Anyone can claim a skill online — we check the things that matter and tell you exactly what we checked, and what we didn't.
The six checks
Email verified
Counts towards the badgeThey confirmed a working email address, so booking and message alerts reach a real inbox.
What it doesn't mean: It says nothing about their skills or their identity.
Phone verified
Counts towards the badgeA code was sent to their phone and entered back, so you can reach them on the day.
What it doesn't mean: A phone number is not proof of who someone is.
City confirmed
Counts towards the badgeThey genuinely live and work in the city shown on their profile, so local jobs are really local.
What it doesn't mean: It does not reveal — or confirm — a home address.
Identity verified
Counts towards the badgeA government ID was checked and matched to the person behind the profile.
What it doesn't mean: It is not a criminal record check and not a skills assessment.
Licence on file
For regulated work — trades, care, legal, finance — a current licence reference is on file.
What it doesn't mean: Licences expire; the badge shows the date we last confirmed it.
Background checked
Extra screening for work inside homes or around children and vulnerable adults.
What it doesn't mean: No check can guarantee future behaviour — always use the platform for messages and payment.
How far a profile has got
- Step 1
Not yet checked
A new profile. They can be booked, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
- Step 2
Partly checked
One or two checks passed — usually email and phone.
- Step 3
Urban Verified
Identity confirmed, or three or more checks passed. This earns the badge you see on cards.
- Step 4
Fully checked
Identity plus a background screening, for work in homes or around families.
Every badge on a profile is reviewed by a person on our team. Our AI helpers can suggest and flag, but they can never approve a verification.
Your address stays private
Profiles show a city and an approximate travel radius. Exact addresses are only shared inside a confirmed booking.
Money is held until the work is done
You pay through Urban Freelancers when you book. The payout is released after completion, so there's recourse if something goes wrong.
Keep it on the platform
Messages, changes and payment all live in one thread. Contact details stay hidden until a booking is confirmed, which keeps both sides protected.
Reviews come from real bookings
Only completed, paid bookings can be reviewed. Our team moderates reports and can hide reviews that break the rules.

Being listed is not the same as being verified. A freelancer can join and publish before every check is done — the badges on their profile always tell you exactly where they stand. Browse verified freelancers.
